150 Years Dream Life: The Cottage
Famous as Vienna’s top villa district, originally only planned as a bourgeois retreat with catalog houses: A stroll through the Cottage in the 19th district reveals an illustrious who’s who of the past 150 years.
Find out why painter and musician Arik Brauer felt like a servant in his house, how writer and doctor Arthur Schnitzler became a club bully and where style innovator Adolf Loos cleared a building front.
Take a look behind the facades with me and let’s experience the eventful history of the city and its fascinating protagonists together.
The Tour
To begin you will learn how the cottage movement came about in today’s Embassy area. Based on selected houses, you will get to know the most important initiator, Ringstrasse architect Heinrich von Ferstel and many other prominent builders.
On our tour we then meet outstanding personalities from the fields of art, medicine, science, media, politics and business. In our thoughts, we let the „Berg“ tramway rattle up the steep streets once again. Or follow as guests in the historic cottage network where bowling was practiced as a pastime, and remember fateful encounters and dates with skates and tennis rackets.
Finally, in the unique Türkenschanzpark, we also explore the history of Vienna’s development and its suburbs.
After about 2.5 hours our tour ends at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences and nearby restaurants invite you to a well-deserved break in the natural setting of the district.
Quality is my highest priority and therefore the tours always take place target group oriented and in a relaxed atmosphere!
If desired I give tips for further sights, coffee houses, and restaurants you should visit.
